How do you express love?

I glanced at the phone of my colleague.
His WhatsApp was filled with heart and kiss smileys from his wife.

I know this is supposed to be cute and adorable.
But for me, it makes me cringe.

Yet I am sure that most people find it odd that the smileys Jasper and I send each other are mainly these:

The red angry face means “miss you” or “take care of yourself”.
The clown means “Ok ok, I admit. This time you are funnier than I am”
The dear means “You’re awesome”.

I guess, somewhere along the way, you develop a certain “style” of loving each other.
There should be no right or wrong, but I bet most of us feel a certain pressure now that V-day is 2 days away.
Buy a present,ย go out for dinner, send many “I love you’s”.

I strolled around the city yesterday in search of a present.
I can continue the trend we had for the past 2 years.
Buying a fluffy toy.
But our house is already filled with tigers, a polar bear, a wolf, a moose, a pug, a duckย and a beaver.
Is a pair of socks romantic enough? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dinner at V-day cannot be done spontaneously. Not in a restaurant at least.
Since both Jasper and I are not great at remembering to make any reservations, I guess that idea goes down the drain.
Home made pasta it is.
Plus, who wants to be sitting in between all these love birds. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My love letter will our always favorite Skeptical Valentino.

And he will laugh and send me many red angry face back.
Then we both now, this means love ๐Ÿ˜‰

Are you a romantic? And what does that mean to you?

Which Smileys do you like you use to express love?

Any plans for V-day?

  1. I’m completely unromantic and have banned Valentine’s day in my house – I like to spend the evening watching horror films and chilling out. Now I have a partner, he’s allowed to join my tradition or go find something else to do…

What surprises me is that I am a hearts emoji person, our messages to each other are stomach churningly sweet. The fact that I can verbally flay a person alive helps me reconcile this part of my personality!

  2. Haha briliant.
One V-day I went to the Die Hard movie, so I am definitely not very romantic.

Nothing wrong with hearts if it suits your personality :D!

  3. We’re going to make dinner at home. Nothing too exciting but we just don’t do anything big for Valentine’s Day. We actually like to celebrate the first time we said ‘I love you’ which is Feb. 23.

  4. I still cannot get over the red angry face with the long nose meaning “miss you”. So weird. But it just goes to prove that we all develop our love language.

I’m not a big fan of giving into the commercial part of V-Day. Everything’s too pink. And there are SO many people out. So much traffic. No, thank you. I’d rather stay home.

  5. I can’t remember when he became an icon for us. I think I wrote once “Love you” and then putting the red angry face by accident. I guess that made him laugh.
And then it became a reoccuring thing.

    Too pink. Hahah.
    I completely agree!

  6. I use smileys sparingly in chat. If I had a significant other I would probably not use the lovey dovey kind because that’s not really my style. Even with friends I mainly use ๐Ÿ™‚ and :/ to express myself. I didn’t do anything for Valentine’s but enjoyed seeing the pink and red wreath decorations people had on their doors. And so many teddy bears clutching hearts for sale lol.
