About me, Blog name and Tag line.

How often do you read someone’s “About Me” page?

I was very keen on this in the beginning, but I noticed a lot people who didn’t even write one.
Then I figured it was easier to get to know people through their posts and read them in the WordPress format.

I’m wondering how many people visit my actual site or have read what my blog is supposed to be all about.
In case you haven’t, I will wrap some things up in this post πŸ˜‰

Inspiration behind my blog + blog name (the Perks of Being Different)

“This is the funny thing about growing up.
For years and years, everybody is desperately afraid to be different.
And then, suddenly, almost overnight, everybody wants to be different.
That is where we win.”

This is a part of the show Modern Family when shy, nervous uncle Mitchel talks to his nephew who is struggling with feeling different while growing up.This is hit home.
I have always felt different.
Always been told I wasn’t like the others.
And sometimes it was pretty obvious I didn’t fit in at all.

This piece felt real to me.
I started my own journey looking for “the Perks of being Different”.
My blog name was easily chosen.

Site name

My actual site name “Benkofficial.com” is combination of my surname and “Official”.
Yup, the name is Benko πŸ˜‰

Tagline (Just sharing some experience)

I do realize some of my posts have a very unpopular opinion.
It is never been my intention to provoke or advice people which I sometimes feel like I have with posts like “Always be yourself” and “Mental vs. physical illness“.
I have only ever wanted to share my experiences, entertain or help people.

However I am always curious about other people point of views and experience, so definitely always feel free to comment!

Profile picture

I am always a bit annoyed that you can’t enlarge people’s profile pictures on wordpress.
So, in case you’re curious about mine, I’ll just post it below

(Also because I promised myself I want to use at least on picture per blog and I can’t really think of anything else to post on a blog like this πŸ˜‰ )

If you’re up for it, feel free to write a blog like this as well (and let me know) or write down in the comments !
It’s always fun to hear someone background and reasons behind their blog πŸ™‚

  1. I love this idea! I’m going to go this for my next blog. Thank you for posting this, it got me wondering how many people actually read “about the author”. I always do, I think it helps you connect with the blog posts of that particular writer.

  2. Well that’s a little serendipitous (my only big word for today 🀣) as my goal this long weekend is to rewrite my Welcome and About Me pages. Thanks for a bit more of a nudge.

  3. I can’t say I didn’t fit. My reason was too a journey, into my own self, digging up my soul, finding out who I am and why I’m such a mess. Blogging has brought smile back to my face. Experience of a lifetime.
BTW, I’m one of the people with no about page, not because I’m lazy but because I have no idea how to do it. Not that I’ve actually tried…..but ok, that’s a different story.

  4. Thanks for sharing πŸ™‚
    I loved Modern Family
I kind of like that you can’t enlarge people’s pictures on WordPress.

  5. I read the About page of new bloggers (those that I do not follow yet) before I venture further into their website and decide if I want to follow or not. I think it’s very important, especially when there is no visible connection between someone’s posts (they are all about different things). It was a good idea on your part to re-introduce us to you.

  6. Thank you for the blowup of your picture- that same thing bugs me!
Btw- I’ve always been different too!

  7. Ha yeah, sometimes we’re just too curious of how someone looks πŸ˜‰

I have always more attracted to hang out with people who are different. But there where just not many in real life.
Glad to find them on WordPress πŸ™‚

  8. That’s actually a good idea to read someone’s “about me” page and see if you like their style.

However, if following someone would only depend on that, I would actually miss out on a couple of awesome blogger because they haven’t written an About Me page.

That’s why I hoped that after my post, everyone would just write one πŸ˜‰

  9. It does give you the opportunity to stay somewhat anonymous. I am personally just way too curious about how someone looks πŸ˜‰

  10. I think blogging is a journey for many people. And I think it brings a smile back to nearly all of us.
It’s wonderful that it has such magical powers.

I know you don’t have an About me page. It bumped me out πŸ˜‰ But I do agree that it’s difficult to write it. It’s one of those things I wrote somewhere half way.
When did you start blogging btw?

  11. I know you don’t have one! πŸ˜‰
But that’s ok. Your blogs are expressive enough to find out what type lovely person you are!

  12. Ah! That must be Serendipity (I only know this word because of the movie πŸ˜‰ )

I followed you! Looking forward to read the new About me! πŸ™‚

  13. Yes haha.
It was on our wonderful holiday to Greece last year May.
We were just looking into doing another vacation like that in May, because it was so nice and relaxing!

  14. Oh my, 1st of April come early this year!
You do have one, I just never noticed!

And it’s beautifully written too. I love how you use “modest advice”. That’s the best kind!

  15. Very nice profile pic, Andrea! And post as well, to be honest – very good idea πŸ˜‰ I am one of these, who likes to read “About me” page as it helps me to connect, mainly when I have just started with blogging

  16. Lovely idea Andrea! It is great to know more about you. And the idea behind your blog is wonderful. I am one of those people who look up for the author. But I think blog posts are a great way to know about the author too.

  17. Cute picπŸ‘πŸ‘…and yes …that’s a true problem …we can not enlarge the Profile pic ….I go to check my emails to do that lol..

  18. It is a cute picture of you! And I love the story

Probably back in high school, someone suggested I write or journal my thoughts that I had when I read scripture. So I did, and somewhere in a dump I suppose are those spiral notebooks. I started doing the same later, and shared one of them with a friend, who said I had to put them out there, that they might help others.
Yeah sure, okay. I have only pastored small churches, I have no name, and I wander a bit, never staying at any church more than 4-5 years. Who would be interested?

My sermon blog was originally hosted on asimplechristian – one of those places someone else gives you access to – then controls the ads. Some of the ads over time were for porn sites, so I gave up doing that. When my friend suggested me blogging the thoughts and insights that come from my scripture and religious reading…I wanted to put it on asimplechristian, but it was gone. So i used justifiedsinner, a title that has some theological meaning to me. Then asimplechristian became availanle… so I got it – and use that title for my blogging,… and to put my sermons up.

To me, a simplechristian doesn’t mean I am not an intellectual, a Bible-geek. It means that when it all comes down it- what matters is that I have a relationship with God, where I trust Him for what He’s promised.
DO I understand it all? No.
DO I agree with it all? No, but if He’s God, He should be more than I can understand, and therefore I probably don’t know enough to agree. It took me 40+ years to learn ot be okay with that… but I have… most of the time!

It doesn’t get a ton of traffic, maybe 20-40 hits a day… but from all over the world. And some people it has helped… so that’s cool.

Thanks for asking – you are teaching me a lot about blogging.. and life

  19. The way you write reminds me a lot of the pastor from the small town I grew up in. He made bible lesson at school fun and understandable.
So your stories give me warm memories πŸ™‚
Therefore I think a simple Christian suits you very well!

You deserve more viewers. Do you use tags?
Those that work for me the best are “life” and “experience”.

Wow! I have hardly ever asked for advice, because I always seem to be the youngest one of the group, so I never assumed I’d ever been able to teach something to anyone.
You saying this, means a lot to me πŸ™‚

  20. Thanks Andrea. I have updated my About Me Page. Blatantly copied from you by making it short answers to a few questions. The last one was too long winded. Still a work in progress πŸ™‚

  21. i like the about sections i like to know the motivation behind the blog. Plus I feel like – it’s kind of like being introduced to someone. I want to know who I’m reading if that makes sense.

  22. So do I!
I often do forget to read them though, because I’m always in the WordPress environment, rather than the actual site.

Therefore, it’s never a bad a idea for anyone to write an introduction post about themselves πŸ™‚
