Comparing yourself to others

Yesterday we were walking up a hill.
Something which us Dutch people are not used to.
Yet Jasper managed to walk without an critical heartbeat.
Leaving me 200 meters behind, coughing up a lung.
*dramatic version* πŸ˜‰

How? He doesn’t even work out? It’s unfair!

With 7.6 billion people living on planet earth, life has made it nearly impossible to not compare yourself to others.
Everywhere you go, people are present.
And they are always wealthier, luckier, prettier.

Some people purposely make friends with people who are less attractive or have less money on the bank account.
Only to make themselves feel better about themselves.

Have you ever done that?

I’m ashamed to say, I have.

Truth is, we are all the same, yet differently designed.
In the case of Jasper and me on the hill, I will mention that he is at least 20cm longer than me. Therefore his legs are too. Therefore, he walks easier and faster.
But since I had the key to the hotel room, he’d have to wait anyhow.
Muhahaha πŸ˜‰

What do we learn from this?
Others might seem more fortunate, but in the end, we all have same purpose in life: happiness.

You will find happiness with a only few, carefully selected people.
It are certainly not those you are comparing yourself to.

  1. Well I guess I am a big time insecure person …and I do compare my self with the world….I don’t know why…. whether it’s because of some sort of superiority complex or what…. mostly it happens when I see ……forget it….I compare with everyone… sometimes feel bad that I am not living the same life…. sometimes feel happy though…and when this feeling is overpowering me , that’s when I start thinking about social causes : poverty , women empowerment etc….oh goddd hahaha πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

  2. Again, completely agree! I didn’t know you’re Dutch though! Everyone’s different, it’s all in the way of thinking and attitude. Be happy who you are.
